Kayaking Fun

I am not what you could consider “outdoorsy.” In fact, I usually try to avoid nature most of the time. I mean, I like going to the park, but I don’t really want to go spend all my free time in the woods. Know what I mean? But I’m trying to be more adventurous and do more fun things, so I decided that I should go kayaking. And I had fun!

I went to White Rock Lake with a few friends and we all had a lot of fun together. The weather was PERFECT (sunny, warm, and a cool breeze!) and the water was nice and calm. We went early enough that the day wasn’t too hot yet… but you better believe that I wore lots of sunscreen!

We didn’t go too fast or hard, we even ended up sitting in the middle of the lake for like 10 minutes just chatting. One thing that I didn’t anticipate or plan for was sitting in water… I didn’t bring a spare pair of shorts or a towel and my lower half was SOAKED the whole time! We walked around for a little bit so that we could dry off and then we grabbed some brunch!

The place where we rented the kayaks and paddle board has a punch card, and I definitely want to go back again soon – 5 visits and you get one for FREE! What a deal! I have done the stand-up paddle boards before, and while the kayaking was super fun, I think that’s what I’ll try again next time!

Five for Friday

Hello and happy Friday! This is a super fun and exciting one for me- I am currently back in MISSOURI!!! I’m going on a fun girls camping weekend at the lake and it will be GREAT! I have been looking forward to this since… well since I got home from the same trip last year. It’s always a blast to see my college buddies again, catch up, hang out in the water, and just have fun girl time! There should be 8 of us this year and I can’t wait to get the weekend started! Here is what has been on my radar this week- enjoy!

1. The best way to re-heat leftovers – I live by myself and I cook for myself, and that means that I am eating leftovers for about 80% of my meals each week. I can usually figure out the best way to heat up my meals, but this list REALLY helps! (My fave tip is about the pizza on the stovetop- I’ve been doing this for years and it works SO well!)
2. Airport codes have always fascinated me (really flying in general) and this site explains why airports are coded the way that they are. Some are easy to guess (like STL or CDG) but some were fun to learn about (like MCI- I had always wondered why this was the code for the airport in Kansas City, and now I know!)
3. Fed Up. This documentary takes a serious look at the sugar problem in America and was a very informative and good watch. It had a lot of good things that really made me think…. so please don’t judge me for having 2 batches of rice krispie treats in my bag right now. They’re for everyone to share this weekend, so that makes it better… right?
4. To really solidify my spinster status (since I am allergic to cats) I bought a puzzle! It is adorable and I have enjoyed working on it a little bit at night when I get home from work!
5. I went to the store Five Below for the first time the other day and they have the BEST pool floaties! They have mats, tubes, a pretzel, a popsicle, a donut, a unicorn, and more! I got the unicorn, and now my weekend at the like will be 1000x more magical. Wham-o.
