This Pie is my New Favorite Food!

I was so happy when my college friend Arie moved to Dallas a few weeks ago because 1) she is amazing and I missed her, 2) since she is new I can show her all my favorite places in town, and 3) she is always up for having fun and trying fun new things!

After the world’s worst brunch in Trinity Groves last weekend, we decided that the only way to salvage the morning was to go on a little adventure! Our first stop was the Continental Avenue Bridge- a pedestrian bridge close to downtown Dallas.

I had always wanted to go on this pedestrian bridge and I’m so glad I can check it off my Dallas list. I mean, look at that awesome view of downtown!

If you look close enough, you can see my ugly office building. Don’t strain your eyes, it’s really not worth looking at.

It was so hot outside that we didn’t even make it all the way across- we had to turn around and head back. We weren’t done having fun together and we really needed to make up for the terrible food we ate, so we headed down to the Bishop Arts district for some delicious pie!

Emporium Pies was another place I’d always wanted to go, and I’m so glad that I got to enjoy it for the first time with my friend! The pie was AMAZING!!!!!!!! I got a slice of the Cloud Nine, which was delicious layers of caramel, butterscotch custard, and brown-sugar meringue. My taste buds died and went to heaven.

I am a little bit obsessed with that pie tho… And how cute is their floral menu?!? We walked around Bishop Arts a little bit more and finally headed back home.

I had so much fun – the more I explore, the more I really love living in Dallas!

Kayaking Fun

I am not what you could consider “outdoorsy.” In fact, I usually try to avoid nature most of the time. I mean, I like going to the park, but I don’t really want to go spend all my free time in the woods. Know what I mean? But I’m trying to be more adventurous and do more fun things, so I decided that I should go kayaking. And I had fun!

I went to White Rock Lake with a few friends and we all had a lot of fun together. The weather was PERFECT (sunny, warm, and a cool breeze!) and the water was nice and calm. We went early enough that the day wasn’t too hot yet… but you better believe that I wore lots of sunscreen!

We didn’t go too fast or hard, we even ended up sitting in the middle of the lake for like 10 minutes just chatting. One thing that I didn’t anticipate or plan for was sitting in water… I didn’t bring a spare pair of shorts or a towel and my lower half was SOAKED the whole time! We walked around for a little bit so that we could dry off and then we grabbed some brunch!

The place where we rented the kayaks and paddle board has a punch card, and I definitely want to go back again soon – 5 visits and you get one for FREE! What a deal! I have done the stand-up paddle boards before, and while the kayaking was super fun, I think that’s what I’ll try again next time!

Five for Friday #1

Happy Friday everybody! I am so glad that this week is over and to have some super fun plans just ahead for the weekend! Hanging out with friends, going to brunch, going to the symphony, and more! But first, I wanted to share a few things (five to be exact!) that have been on my radar this week.

1. It is Girl Scout cookie season. And to quote Kevin Malone, “nothing beats the cookie season, that’s the truth.” (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you have to watch this 20 second video. Do it. Right now.) And with Girl Scout cookies comes one of the best things known to man: the Andy’s Frozen Custard Thin Mint Concrete.

You can start drooling now.

You can start drooling now.

This was by far one of my favorite Andy’s treats (second only to the pumpkin pie concrete offered in November) and I have been craving one of these bad boys for months now!! I thought my Andy’s days were long gone when I moved up to St. Louis, but lo and behold there is one up here and close by in Kirkwood! The close proximity + the free gift card they gave me for my birthday = ice cream time.

2. The Veronica Mars movie comes out TODAY! I watched a few episodes of the show back when it was on, but never really got into it (I was busy with life and school and completely hooked on Gilmore Girls) until about two months ago. I had heard some friends talking about how excited they were for this movie to come out and they told me that I should watch the whole show. So I did. And it was awesome.

So much sass! So much humor! So much drama! So much crime solving! But then it ended after 3 seasons and I was left wanting more! Who would Veronica end up with? What would happen with Logan? I needed to know- and now I can find out! I just need to find someone to go see the movie with me… any takers?!? (Quick sidenote, this movie was partly funded with Kickstarter, which is pretty cool!)

3. I’ve decided that I want to be a “brunch person.” I love the idea of spending a leisurely morning with friends, eating delicious food, catching up, and I’m sad that I haven’t done this more often. A few weeks ago I went to Saturday brunch with my friends Allison and Seth at Rooster and it was delicious! I had one of their breakfast crepes and man was it filling! I highly recommend going here if you don’t mind waiting a few minutes to be seated (comparable to waiting for Gailey’s for my Springfield friends) – it will be worth the wait!

4. Buzzfeed quizzes are my new favorite thing. They are silly and fun and have helped me “learn” a lot about myself. Like….

5. Internet consignment done right. If you haven’t heard of them already, you need to go check out thredUP right now! (Sign up for their e-mails and you get 20% off your first order!) You can browse by size, color, brand/designer, category, and they have SO MUCH to choose from! (Seriously, they currently have 1,586 black dresses to choose from alone.) You can also use this site to sell your new/used clothes as well! Just request a bag, send them your stuff, and they will give you store credit for your things, or you can get your money through Paypal. Any clothes that don’t make it on the site will be donated to charity (which is probably what you would have done anyway, right?)

One more bonus thing that I’m loving right now: the start of spring! I have the windows open in my apartment right now and the fresh air is so nice! I can’t wait for the weather to get just a smidge warmer, that will be even better!
