Girl with the Pearl Earring (2016 Book Bingo Review)

Let’s be real – I had LOTS of choices to for the category of ‘a book you own but haven’t read yet.’ My shelf is full of books that look really great and I really want to read… I just haven’t gotten around to yet. I know I’m not the only one, right?!? There are just so many great books at the library and so the ones at home get put on the back burner. BUT I’m glad I made this a category for my book bingo because it forced me to finally read Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier.

I’ll be honest, the story is kind of dull… but it was also very dramatic and I didn’t want to stop reading! I say it was “dull”… ok well dull isn’t the right word… it’s just that it takes place in the 1600’s and life was just simpler back then, and even making eye contact with the wrong person could be considered a scandal… do you know what I mean? I’m not explaining it right… I really did enjoy reading this book, so don’t get me wrong!

The story, like I said, takes place in the mid-1600’s and tells the story of a young maid who through some (duly) scandalous events, becomes the main focus of one of the world’s most well-known paintings.

I know that there is a move based on this book, but I haven’t seen it… yet! I would really like to- I guess I’ll have to see if it’s at my library! I know this was a pretty popular book when it first came out – has anybody else read it? What did you think?
